2023 highlights
Big and small moments that made my year.
It is the last day of 2023, time to reflect on what happened. these are my personal highlights of the year.
Attending a theater festival.
Every other year a festival for special needs theater groups is organized. It is a place for everyone to meet each other and have fun together. we watched each others plays, had a disco and a non profit organization had donated bunch of candy and soda for us to enjoy. It was such a nice day.
A circus workshop
A highlight of the festival day was when a few people from a local circus came to do a workshop with us. We got to watch and learn some basic tricks with them. My favorite thing to do was trowing some soft balls back to the person who was juggling with them. Gotta appreciate them for wanting to take time to have fun with us and to make everyone happy.
My very first full length yoga class.
I got to use my skills from the yoga instructor program properly for the first time this year. Me and a more experienced yoga instructor worked together to teach an hour long yoga class by the sea for sixteen students. Everyone enjoyed the experience and i got good feedback afterwards. this most certainly was a jump to the unknown. My dream is to be able to continue having these experiences of growing and getting out of my comfort zone.
an afternoon tea.
My uncle and his wife invited us to an afternoon tea. We got to spend quality time together chatting and enjoying tea from my grandparents old porcelain cups. we were served some salmon sandwiches and plenty of sweet treats. This was a highlight because i love spending time with my loved ones.
giving a gift to my coworker.
My grandpa had a very special tradition. He has created hand grafted a small angel figurines over seventy years ago. he used to give them as gifts for the special people in his life. My uncle still makes these in small patches using the original mold.
I wanted to find a way to thank my coworker for all the encouragement and support i have gotten from her over the years and also honour my grandpa. so i gave one of the figurines for her as a little gift during the holiday season. It made me a bit emotional, her reaction made it all worth it.
a random act of kindness.
a highlight of the year does not need to be a huge thing. at one point during the theater festival I was drowning in sensory overload and someone from our local youth theater wanted to borrow me her earplugs. This very small gesture made my day and reminded me that we are constantly surrounded by good people. It was especially important reminder as i was recovering from the aftermath of seeing my friend being sexually harassed.
My aunts 70th birthday
we celebrated my aunt in the most beautiful place ever. My cousins childhood friend was also there, she is a self taught singer and songwriter. she wanted to honour my aunt by playing some of her own songs. her voice is just perfect and i respect someones passion to follow her dreams no matter what anyone else thinks. About forty people came together to create a magical day for my aunt.
Starting anti depressants.
After years and years of thinking about this and being afraid of the medication me and my doctor finally made the decision to start the medicine for my anxiety and panic disorder. I have been taking it for a few weeks now and none of my fears came true. it did not make me a heavily medicated zombie who cant function properly anymore. instead, i got almost no side effects and the medicine is slowly starting to work on the worst mood swings. The medicine is so mild that it does not impact my day to day functioning at all. This is a highlight because i finally overcame my fear. Please do consult your doctor first before making any decisions, as there is always risks involved with all medicine. this is not attended to be used as a substitute for medical advise.
